CONSTRUCTION

Carefully constructed using premium composite materials.

Each Merino hull is carefully built using the most premium composite materials available in Australia. Literally. Our hulls are built exclusively with high grade Vinyl Ester resin systems and top of the range structural fabrics and core materials. The entire hull laminate and stringer assembly is CNC cut in New Zealand into construction kits and precisely engineered to fit in to our 3D designed moulds. This ensures that key structural laps and components are positioned correctly in the mould, everytime.

VACUUM INFUSION

Materials are carefully dry packed into the mould in preparation for the infusion process against our approved engineering plans to ISO Standards. Merino Boatworks adopts the Vacuum Infusion Process which allows us to efficiently manufacture complex hull laminates while maintaining an optimum resin/ glass ratio and eliminates weak air pockets that are often contained in less superior layup methods.

CORCELL
FOAM

The hull shell of every Merino Hybrid and Open is entirely cored which creates an extremely rigid and durable shell by separating two infused layers of structural glass fabrics with Corecell M100 foam across the entire hull surface. Globally, Corecell M foam core is considered the gold standard in Marine and composites applications and 10 x stronger than commonly used PET foams and 2 x Stronger than general PVC foams commonly used in boat fabrication when tested for dynamic slam loading (see charts).

ASSEMBLY

Our complex deck components and small parts are carefully hand laid and directly fiberglassed together to create our intricate and fully finished deck assemblies. The hull and deck are then bonded by bedding the entire deck directly onto the stringers with MMA Adhesive. Furthermore the hull and deck are then fiberglassed directly together and mechanically fastened around the entire perimeter. Utilising all three joining methods ensures our boats structural integrity is bulletproof throughout the entire assembly.
